Pink is the story of you, me , that next door girl you see, that Nirbhaya , that Helen and every other girl.
It is a must watch movie. For every Indian, man or woman. It is one powerful mainstream movie which bravely encounters the lives of every woman, the cat calls she faces through her growing years, the groping and following she faces and the ever judging society she has to live in.
Each character in the movie had a purpose, either blatant or subtle. 3 girls live in a society where the 'decent men, of uncle age grope and stare at the independent women, aunties gossip and judge women by the time on the clock when they return from work, a neighborhood full of people who bad mouth independent girls as characterless women or label them as 'loose characters'. A typical lady cop and her indifference towards the plight of another helpless woman and the 'salaam saahaab' attitude are all so wonderfully portrayed.
I have been a lone woman seafarer on many ships and continue to be the only woman onboard on most ships I work on, till date. I have been referred to as a 'loose woman' on many occasions by virtue of my career choice. Many men have hated my guts. Of course there have been a few good men along the way but hatred, over protective attitude, irritation, frustration, jealousy, groping eyes, staring and gossiping idiots, snapping photos from behind my back, etc are the reactions that I ve faced 98% times from men. It is I who has to deal with it and be assured that the men don't change even after working together for longer periods of time. The misfortune of being the lone woman onboard has landed me in the midst of typical chauvinists many a times and I can very well relate to the way of our society as portrayed in this film, where independent women are labelled "bitches" , and the time you get home decides the verdict on your character certificate;Where the length of your skirt or shorts decides whether or not u re a modern woman with integrity; where your virginity decides your purity at heart; And oh! If you consume alcohol it means that the woman is open to be sexually assaulted and it is her fault if she is raped even. "She had a drink with them, dressed obscenely and lead the way, and then complained she was raped?? What did she expect?" Is the opinion of a majority of the probably most populated country in the world.
The whole idea of the movie is about what a woman means if she says NO, Dont, Niet, Nada, Nahi, Illai or Vendam. Let's say she agreed to go to a rock concert, she agreed to share a cigarette with you, she asked to have dinner with you and she agreed to have a couple drinks with you. The moral of this story is that none of the above mean that she wants to engage in sexual activity with you. None of the above mean that she is interested in having sex. And when you make your move, even after getting in bed with her, and she says NO, means NO. Don't. If she says she is not interested, the guy MUST STOP. No man, no friend, no husband, no boyfriend has the right to violate that NO.
The three girls, Amitabh, the opposition lawyer, the judge, the villains , the neighbours, all in all each and every actor in the movie has portrayed an excellent character. Taapsee steals the show with a top class act.
To those who label women as the reasons for the growing rate of crime against women, I ask, why then, are babies, kids of 5 yrs and 6 yrs, goats and other poor animals raped ? Because of short skirts, or because of the baby blabber they do? Or did they invite you after getting high over a bottle of whisky?
It is only because the perpetrators are animals, sick bastards and sadists and so sure they won't be caught/questioned/punished. This happens because we do not give capital punishment or horribly painful punishments for rape. It is because human beings are right till they are caught. Human beings will err and commit crimes without guilt till they re caught and punished.
Let's hope this movie will reach the people of the world.
Here's hoping the message of the movie is loud and clear.
You atleast get a movie called PINK but we just get branded among a group of men who commit mistakes and people still think we belong to that category too . And we have to carry that brand till death eventhough we commit nil mistakes. There are monsters amongst us but not everyone are monsters n mainly rapists . I have heard enuf stories about women it's time the world heard the story about men
ReplyDeleteYou just saw PINK and impacted you so much . Wait till you hear My BLUE .
